History
Founded in 1951 in Helsinki, Wilhelm Tell is one of the oldest archery clubs in Finland. The club currently has around 200 members.
The most famous archer from our ranks so far was Tapio "Tapsa" Rautavaara (who was also a talented actor, singer, and athlete). He was a part of Finland's gold-winning team in the Brussels World Championships in 1958. The two other archers in this spectacular team, Olavi Kallionpää and Väinö Ansala, were also members of Wilhelm Tell.
Another of our more famous members is Tomi Poikolainen, who started his career as a junior in Wilhelm Tell and won gold at the 1980 Olympics in men's individual archery competition.
We remain active and our current competitive archers hold several current Finnish records - and continue to break them. Interested in trying? Join our Adult Beginner's Group!
