Rules and practicalities

Our courses and groups, as well as member's hours are held in the upper floor of the range. Downstairs range is reserved for appointed club competitors.

The upstairs range is usually split into a short technical training / warmup distance and an 18 meter target shooting distance.

Occasionally we hold member's hours where shooting from up to 30 meters is possible. At these times there is no short range available for training.

Club owned bows and other equipment is available for a fee, see the current pricing for more information. Course and group fees include equipment usage.

In the break room we have free WiFi, a coffee maker, a water kettle and a microwave.

Membership

As your interest grows, joining a club is a natural next step. Once you've tried a few shots and caught the spark, being part of a club helps ensure better training opportunities. Clubs can also help you find your first bow or guide you in choosing the right one from an archery store.

Join the club

You can apply for membership by filling out our membership form. Discount group includes students, pensioners, and conscripts.

Applications are reviewed every few weeks. Once approved, you'll receive details on how to pay the joining and membership fees. After payment, you can officially start enjoying the hobby as a club member.

History

Founded in 1951 in Helsinki, Wilhelm Tell is one of the oldest archery clubs in Finland. The club currently has around 200 members.

The most famous archer from our ranks so far was Tapio "Tapsa" Rautavaara (who was also a talented actor, singer, and athlete). He was a part of Finland's gold-winning team in the Brussels World Championships in 1958. The two other archers in this spectacular team, Olavi Kallionpää and Väinö Ansala, were also members of Wilhelm Tell.

Another of our more famous members is Tomi Poikolainen, who started his career as a junior in Wilhelm Tell and won gold at the 1980 Olympics in men's individual archery competition.

We remain active and our current competitive archers hold several current Finnish records - and continue to break them. Interested in trying? Join our Adult Beginner's Group!
